Statistical Geneticist
Axial Biotech is revolutionizing spine care by developing molecular diagnostics and motion preserving surgical implants. Axial will transform current treatment paradigms by using its predictive tests to bring motion preserving technologies to the widest range of patients at the earliest appropriate stage.
Description
The successful candidate will work as part of the team developing a molecular genetic prognostic test for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and discovering the human genes underlying this condition. She/he will provide leadership in the design, development and implementation of Axial’s diagnostic and prognostic algorithms for spinal diseases. She/he will develop and implement multivariate statistical approaches for the identification of disease susceptibility genes. Other responsibilities include statistical consulting and support for ongoing laboratory projects.
Qualifications
Candidates must have:
- A PhD in Biostatistics, Genetics, Statistics, or closely related discipline
- Demonstrated sound knowledge of applied statistics and biostatistics and relevant experience in the applications of statistics to genetics
- 2-4 years work in statistical genetics including development of Analysis Plans
- GWAS experience
- Mixed models, GEE methods experience would be useful
- Demonstrated ability to estimate work requirements and complete work on a timely basis with minimal supervision
- Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
- At least 3 years experience in the bioscience industry
- Good managerial skills and a strong track record of scientific publications
- The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment
Ideal candidates will have experience with at least some of the following techniques: programming (Perl, BioPerl, Unix), genome-wide analyses, relational databases, statistics/SAS, PLINK, FASTA, and DNA sequencing and analysis. Responsibilities of this position will include:
- Maintaining large phenotypic and genotypic databases
- Performing data analysis on genotypic and phenotypic datasets
- Developing statistical analysis plans
- Producing statistical analyses and summaries and write formal statistical reports to investigators
- Working with project team to develop and implement reusable programs, macros and processes
