Molecular Geneticist

BACKGROUND:
Axial Biotech is revolutionizing spine care by developing molecular diagnostics and motion preserving surgical implants. Axial will transform current treatment paradigms by using its predictive tests to bring motion preserving technologies to the widest range of patients at the earliest appropriate stage.

DESCRIPTION:
The successful candidate will join the team developing a molecular genetic prognostic test for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and discovering the human genes underlying this condition. She/he will provide leadership in the design, development and implementation of Axial’s diagnostic and prognostic algorithms for spinal diseases. This position reports to the VP of Research. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Managing disease gene discovery and clinical test development laboratory activities
  • Contributing to and supporting regulatory filings, reference standard characterizations, and process development
  • Interacting with many different areas including, test development, quality control, regulatory affairs and the clinical laboratory
  • Taking appropriate action to achieve expected performance

DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Candidates must have:

  • PhD or equivalent in human genetics, genomics, molecular biology or an appropriate scientific discipline
  • 6+ years experience with human disease gene and/or GWAS
  • At least 3 years experience in the bioscience industry
  • Comprehensive understanding of human genomic technologies
  • Ability to apply computational biology to analyze genetic data sets
  • Experience with high throughput genotyping, mutation screening, and molecular biology and human genomic techniques required
  • Experience in statistical genetics or molecular diagnostics desirable
  • Broad and diverse scientific and technical background with demonstrated focus on achievement of goals
  • Self motivated and ability to work independently
  • Strong organizational ability; ability to successfully work and get things done in teams
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment

Statistical Geneticist

BACKGROUND:
Axial Biotech is revolutionizing spine care by developing molecular diagnostics and motion preserving surgical implants. Axial will transform current treatment paradigms by using its predictive tests to bring motion preserving technologies to the widest range of patients at the earliest appropriate stage.

DESCRIPTION:
The successful candidate will work as part of the team developing a molecular genetic prognostic test for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and discovering the human genes underlying this condition. She/he will provide leadership in the design, development and implementation of Axial’s diagnostic and prognostic algorithms for spinal diseases. She/he will develop and implement multivariate statistical approaches for the identification of disease susceptibility genes. Other responsibilities include statistical consulting and support for ongoing laboratory projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have:

  • A PhD in Biostatistics, Genetics, Statistics, or closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge of applied statistics and biostatistics and relevant experience in the applications of statistics to genetics
  • 2-4 years work in statistical genetics including development of Analysis Plans
  • GWAS experience
  • Mixed models, GEE methods experience would be useful
  • Demonstrated ability to estimate work requirements and complete work on a timely basis with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
  • At least 3 years experience in the bioscience industry
  • Good managerial skills and a strong track record of scientific publications
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment

Ideal candidates will have experience with at least some of the following techniques: programming (Perl, BioPerl, Unix), genome-wide analyses, relational databases, statistics/SAS, PLINK, FASTA, and DNA sequencing and analysis. Responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Maintaining large phenotypic and genotypic databases
  • Performing data analysis on genotypic and phenotypic datasets
  • Developing statistical analysis plans
  • Producing statistical analyses and summaries and write formal statistical reports to investigators
  • Working with project team to develop and implement reusable programs, macros and processes

Clinical Specialist Manager – Molecular Diagnostics / Spinal Devices

The Company
Axial Biotech, Inc. (ABI) is a privately held company founded in 2002 by a group of internationally recognized spine surgeons and geneticists. The company is revolutionizing spine care by developing molecular diagnostics and motion preserving technologies. ABI has developed the first DNA based prognostic test for Scoliosis. In addition, ABI is currently involved in various Clinical Studies in the United States including a study for Degenerative Disc Disease. ABI has signed an exclusive worldwide distribution agreement with Johnson & Johnson to sale and market our AIS prognostic test to Pediatric Orthopedic Spine Surgeons.
Position Description
The Clinical Specialist Manager will report directly to the Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing and will ideally be based out of our Salt Lake City Headquarters. The CS Manager functions independently within the Sales and Marketing department to provide consultation, education and key account management based on evidence based practice and research. The Regional Clinical Manager will achieve this by effective coaching, performance management and planning. Initially, the CS Manager will personally be responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of clinical training programs for spine surgeons and clinical staffs involved in the use of our products.  In addition, the specialist will be responsible for managing and training additional Clinical Specialists or working with independent distributors to assist in the effective sale of our product.
Job Functions

  •  Make technical presentations to surgeons and health care providers at regional and national sales meetings
  • Assist sales force in presentations to physicians or other professional groups as requested
  • Assist in initial field training of new salespeople
  • Develop a "Best in Class" CS Organization
  • Extensive Management of all Clinical Specialists includes coordinating schedules, trainings, evaluation of performance, hiring, etc.
  • Develop and drive strategic initiatives that continually improve the operational effectiveness and service delivery models across the country
  • Ensure that best practice educational models are deployed in the field.
  • Ensure that CS initiatives and programs are strategically aligned with sales supports and partners, in conjunction with sales team, during the various aspects of the ABI sales cycle including qualification, training, account set-up,and the follow up processes.
  • Prioritize and plan independently, with input from the Executive Vice President to meet the goals and sales objectives of the company and to the satisfaction of the customer.
  • Together with other team members, efficiently utilize corporate resources to minimize cost and meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Identify accounts with clinical issues. Work with Clinical Specialist and Sales Team to establish, plan, and implement resolution of issues.

Qualifications
Education

  • The minimum requirements include a bachelor's degree in nursing or health care related field or a four year degree with health care/clinical related experience.
  • Masters in Business, Nursing or Adult Education preferred

Experience

  • 10+ years patient care/clinical experience
  • 5+ years Clinical Specialist experience preferred
  • 3+ years experience as a Manager, or similar position coordinating the activities of medical/nursing personnel.

  • Establish metrics and appraise performance of R&D to overall strategies and objectives. Monitor and evaluate R&D performance, the efficiency of staff, organizational structure, procedures and costs. Take appropriate action to achieve expected performance

  • Be responsible for the scientific and career growth of project employees
  • Maintain current knowledge of and continually implement best practices and continuous improvement

  • A PhD in a relevant scientific discipline and 12 years of scientific management experience. At least 3 years experience in the bioscience industry.

CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plan, coordinate and supervise activities to process customer orders.
• Implement procedures and training to insure that customer inquiries and orders are handled and processed in accordance with the Company’s objectives.
• Prepare policies and procedures for Customer Service area.
• Maintain department’s budget and control expenses within the budget plan.
• Maintain inventory, perform inventory audits on location, and establish excellent vendor relations.
• Manage flow of shipment and product.
• Perform all other related duties as required.
 
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.
• Minimum 3-5 years experience in a comparable position.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks.  Must function independently and possess organizational skills.
• Must have a good knowledge of computer systems, Excel and Microsoft Word.
• Must be able to adapt and change with the position.


SALARY
• $30,000-50,000 per year/DOE
